Set in Stone

On a recent sunny April afternoon at Baltimore’s Ivy Bookshop, I gave a reading to mark the opening of the sculptural installation, Concrete Poetry 2, created by the nationally acclaimed conceptual artist Julia Kim Smith.

As Julia writes:

As public art, Concrete Poetry 2 is an expression of community trust. It is permanent and mutable. As often the case with public art, permanence and immutability can prove to be elusive. Through the installation, the artist queries how do we move forward in an impermanent world?

Julia invited me to participate in this new phase of her evolving outdoor installation by contributing several poetic one-liners we're calling 'microverses.'  The installation is located in Ivy's back garden, where the reading took place.

Your humble author mid-reading.
